A few weeks ago, Kenny asked me to take part in the National Weather Service's night of charity at the Ronald McDonald house in Des Moines. Tonight the NOAA/NWS team made a taco bar for the residents. While I was watching Hutch, I talked with those folks. Having worked with the Ronald McDonald House before, I knew exactly what the program was about. I had taken a tour to see the beautiful facility in which people in dire straights call home. However, it wasn't until tonight I was able to hear the stories from those directly involved. I walked out the door, holding my healthy son, with my healthy husband, and my own new healthy life knowing I would never forget these families. I am so proud of my husband and his colleagues and am so very thankful they included me. Experiences like this help keep me in check.
