King of the Road

My wee little road king!

Picking up where we left off from our two week hiatus.

The weekend came and went. On Saturday, KP’s wonderful parents watched the Hutchmeister so we could go on a date.

We headed to the Plaza and decided to just walk around, window shop and scope out the restaurants before choosing. We decided on a Brio Tuscan Grille. We scooped up a seat on the second floor balcony and watched as people crowded the blocks to do back to school shopping. People watching is always a fun form of entertainment.

After dinner, we went into some of the ritzier shops (shoppes, haha) where a w
hite pillow case was $180 and a flat sheet was roughly $500. I decided that is where JLo shops as we walked out the door empty-handed, toward Tom Fooleries for an after dinner brew-ha-ha. It was relaxing and fun. To end our date night, we went to the original Foo’s Fabulous Frozen Custard in Brookside – we were home by 8. What can we say, we missed our sweet little man.

We love all the fountains in KC

Sunday, I spend the day with Kenny’s mom. We decided to start on Ethan’s train quilt that mimics his daddy’s quilt he had when he was a little boy. I bought updated fabric from a quilt shop and traced other elements of the quilt, cut them and ironed them for Kenny’s mom to sew. It was a great bonding time for her and I. We have never had that kind of time together before and it was great and pretty irreplaceable. I am itching to be done with it so he can use it for tummy time but there are still a few more finishing touches we need to do. Pictures to come.

On Monday, we went to Oklahoma Joe’s Bar-b-q, one of the absolute best places to eat in Kansas City. This BBQ spot is ‘conveniently” located in a convenience store. Convenient. You must check it out if you are ever that way. That evening we headed out to the Legend’s. We did a little shopping

Tuesday was the day of the grandparents. They came over to the house again, this time not together. The grandma’s soaked up their own special time with Ethan. Holding him and talking to him. He sure does love them.

That night, Ethan was fussy, which is rare. After assessing a recent diaper change, it was determined a temperature check was in order. 100.8. Boo. After hearing from a friend we had a boil order on our water at home starting the day we left, we made a call to our pediatrician in Des Moines. After a dose of Tylenol then a visit from “Ralph” we took him into the urgent care. (Give me a break – it was 8:10 and it closed at 8:30 – we had to make a rash decision and I didn’t want to do the ER later if we didn’t have to.) His temp had dropped by the time we go in the room but they wanted a sample of his diaper business. Not fun but we had the okay to head to Oklahoma the next day after dropping that by to be tested for E.Coli. (All tests were negative so it must have been a virus)

This is my kid with a fever. Doesn't look sick, eh?

Wednesday we headed out of town around 10. Everyone was feeling good so we stopped for lunch with my stepmom, Cinda and my Unkie Brad. Ethan soaked it up.

We made it to Oklahoma City at around 6pm. A sleeping baby made for an easy ride. We only had to stop to feed and burp. Easy enough.

Next Blog... a picture tribute to our OKC visit! :)
