ORANGE | POWER

ORANGE | POWER

Thursday was a normal day. Went to work, did good one my diet, walked the mall at lunch - but that all changed when I won tickets/free parking to see my #2 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys play the Iowa State Cyclones. It was to be our first real night time date since Hutch was born. I used the powers of Facebook to find a sitter and pulled out all the orange paraphernalia I could find to wear to stand out in the sea of cardinal.

Friday morning, November 18th we awoke to the news that the OSU women's basketball coaches, Kurt Budke and Miranda Serna, along with OSU Alum Olin and Paula Branstetter were killed in a plane crash in Arkansas. The dynamic had changed. I was then just eager to get to the game to show support and love for a team stricken by grief.

As we pulled up to Jack Trice, the stadium was roaring. We parked and walked into the gates.
Everyone was relatively nice. Kenny got heckled because of his MU hat a little and we had someone stop us and ask what was going on. "One Okie State fan and one Mizzou Fan. Not going to lie, it's a little weird, but, hey, welcome to Jack Trice." But the most touching comment of the night was from the man sitting in front of us who turned and said, "I am really sorry for your team's loss. That is a terrible tragedy." It was heart-warming. Thank you, ISU fans.

Unfortunately, we all know what happened after that. The team who was trying to keep it together, fell apart. Their O, D and Special Teams were a disaster. My heart hurt for them with every turnover.

This article describes it perfectly. It describes why there was salt in the burn. It describes why we love this school so much.

Cold Schmold. I am wearing my orange loud and proud!

Wow! Did that just happen?

OSU is not my Alma Mater - I am a proud SWOSU Bulldog, however, the schools are tethered and after being accepted to both OSU and KU, I decided to head to SWOSU last minute. It was a defining moment in my independent adulthood. That being said, I still love the Orange Power and always will.
Heads high, donning the proud orange we wore in, we left the stadium and safely headed home to our son being taken care of by his very first babysitters, Krista and Callie.

I came home to this. Isn't it just precious!!

Many prayers for healing and peace go to those affected by those lost this week. A game is just that... and we always have next year. We will be keeping the Budke and Serna families, and the families of the 10 in our thoughts this Holiday season and supporting our team as they find the spirit to move forward, as they always do in the hardest of times.
