Hutch, and his booger nose, felt good enough to walk for a cure!
This year, I was asked once again to be the team captain of the JDRF walk at work. I asked a few friends (Thanks Tammi and Stephanie!) if they wouldn't mind helping and we got to fun-raising!
It started with a Kickoff Breakfast where co-workers could sign-up to walk or donate. We offered muffins, bagels and juice and promoted that we were again hoping to help people like our sponsor child Breah, whom we purchased a diabetes service dog for this past year. {Chance Murphy}

In October 2011, we helped raise enough for Breah to have a diabetes service dog!
With her in mind, we went with the theme, Together We Give A Chance. It went pretty smooth and we had a nice turn out. With 53 walkers signed up - which is 1/4 of our office - we set a goal of $2500.
Team Holmes Murphy walked today, a little over a month after our big kickoff, with $5450 in our donation pot, not including a corporate donation of an extra $2000! Our 53 walkers turned into 58, and Breah's family decided to join us making our team 88 persons strong! I am excited and proud my son and husband joined me on this journey. There were hiccups along the way but in the end, we all did what we signed up to do. We raised awareness and money to help find a cure for this awful disease.
I plan to post our big group photo, but for now, here are just a couple of us at the walk!

This is me crossing the finish line - I was so fast you couldn't see me.
Next year, I hope I am asked to help out again. It is a lot of work but very rewarding. It is amazing to think that in just a year, our team has raised over $23,000!! And maybe, just maybe, over the course of the many years I plan to participate in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, I will hit 5000 miles...or 100.
