Dark {Beer} Days Are Behind Us

Me again. Did you miss this blog and me or did you forget all about it. Either way, like it or not, I am back.  A new beginning of sorts.

First, let’s play a little catch up. Hutch is almost a whoppin’ 22 months old. He is a slim kid with a ton of personality. He has started making choices about what clothes he likes to wear, what food he likes to eat, and basically, when he is going to get his daily cookie.

Thanks to my in-laws that watched him for a week, he can’t go a day without a cookie – or so he thinks. He says things like, “Big Truck” and “Get Down Please” and his “Tan-tu” or thank you to the rest of us, is heart melting. He ran his fork he tossed on the floor, along with food for Charlie, to the kitchen sink and with a flick of the wrist, he made it into the basin. It was impressive, and it shed a little light on how far he has come. If he can do it, we will encourage him. Two weeks ago or so he had croup for the first and hopefully for the last time ever. What a very scary experience. We are both on the road to recovery, after I caught what he had and possibly gave it back to him. I can’t wait for spring. And yes, I know spring is here but I mean the normal, average weather that is associated with the storybook season they call spring.

More good things have come... I am off the heart meds! I couldn’t believe they took me off but I am so excited they see potential in my beater. I have started working out again, shaking it fast while doing Zumba but you can tell I am A) out of shape and B) going to have to amend my workout. The hardcore cardio I did before is exhausting and I feel as if I am tired for two days after. I will have to build my tolerance again. It will happen! Thanks for all the love, prayers, good thoughts, juju, booga booga…you get it… back at cha. Without the support of you all, these last couple years would have been a major bummer to say the least. But here is where the disappointment comes into play; I am off the wagon.

I feel like winter in Iowa is unbearable without dark beer. I have been having one per week. I have gained some weight back (not much) but am realizing I didn’t miss the drinking all that much. Now that we are officially in what the calendar says is spring, I will head back from the dark (beer) days to sobriety. I have had a pretty fun stint from Oktoberfest to St. Patrick’s Day, ah hem, I mean, October to March. Basically, I need to go back and read my own diary postings.

So to help me shed a couple unwanted elbeez, along with the Zumba, I am doing resistance training as well. I vowed on Facebook, to have a better booty by the summer. With a nasty two-week-long cold, the only workout was getting was in my chest. And it too did pass. As for work, things are going well. I have taken on a ton of new responsibility by learning how to plan large corporate events. In the middle of February, I headed to the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay in California for our company’s annual producer incentive trip. I have helped plan it in years past but never had the opportunity to execute. It was worth the 19 hour days. And on the way to the airport in San Fran, I got to see my dear, sweet friend Amanda, who I had not seen in 6+ years and meet her kiddos! It was the icing on the cake!!

In other news: we bought bikes, I am a blonde again, and KP is training for the OkC half marathon.

We look to have a busy spring and fall. I promise not to stay away too long again. I need to be accountable and this is a great way to keep on my game and with my friends and family!
