Three Days Grace

I am not going to lie, my birthday lasted for three days, and I loved every ounce of it.
In my mind, why wouldn’t a 30th birthday last three days? That is one day for every ten years of life. Seems fair, right? People came to me with their stories, good and bad. How they dreaded the big 3-oh, or how they didn’t feel any differently. Again, in my opinion, I will take the new decade as opposed to the alternative; death.

Am I right, or am I right.

So what? Being older doesn’t mean we have to physically age overnight. It is not as if we wake up one morning wearing dentures and having coarse unmanageable grays popping out of our once luscious and flowing hair. Wrinkles appear from years and years of laughter and infamous facial expressions and the other natural traits that come with age, well I hate to tell you, are a bit inevitable. But there are ways to drink from the fountain if you wish.

Think of it this way, there is at least one reason God invented people with so many talents and trades. Thank you men and women who have dedicated your life to saving the sanity of those who cannot handle the stress of aging:

Gray or thinning hair? Stylists and Hair Club for Men
Wrinkles? Botox
Saggy (well, anything)? Plastic Surgeons
Unwanted weight gain? Weight Watchers, Personal Trainers and Richard Simmons
Denial? Therapists and Great Friends

Sentimental pause:

Mostly, thank you to our troops who fight for our freedoms as Americans.
Without them, there would definitely be no Spa days to say the least.

So you might be wondering how I am taking it. My answer: Pretty damn well!

A big thank you to my husband for giving me the most thoughtful gifts and making an effort to spend extra time with me even though his work schedule is mad.

Thank you to my BFF Lauren and her kiddos, my sweet sister and nephew, Samantha and Benjamin and to my sincerely great friend, Melissa who took the time to call and sing to me over the phone.

Also, a huge thank you to my awesome friend Alicia, who got my girlfriends together on my actual birthday for tacos and pedi’s; and those chicas who came out after a blizzard to celebrate; Katie, Emily, Lisa and Kerry.

How could I forget, thank you Al and Lo at work for making sure the entire company knew it was my birthday.

Last but not least, thank you for all the cards, FB shoutouts, phone calls and good thoughts on my big day.

Having friends and family like you, makes getting old something to look forward to.

  1. I love this post and couldn't agree more! I don't understand why people get all stressed about getting "old" at 30. How stupid! I am thankful for each extra year I get!! Life is beautiful!! :)
