Sweet Like Candy to My Soul...

Today is officially our one year wedding anniversary. On advice from one of our friends, Eric at Juice, Kenny planned a surprise evening out for the two of us last night. Before we left the house, we opened gifts. First year is traditionally paper, so we went out of the box a little. I got Kenny framed photos of our last name and a novel and he got me a spa gift certificate and a notebook for my purse. I love the creativity!
In the pouring rain, we arrived at our first destination, the Cosmopolitan Lounge located in the heart of The Suites on 8th and Locust. Clubplantet.com describes it the best..."It has it all: a swank atmosphere, attractive crowd, and cheap drinks. Okay, okay, so maybe it doesn’t have cheap drinks, but Cosmopolitan Lounge is still a solid lounge. Not really a dance club, per se, but perfect more a more upscale option." And you are supposed to feel "upscale" on your anniversary right? We had a few minutes before dinner so we decided to venture off the plan a little and head to Dos Rios, one of our favorite spots for drinks on Court Avenue. Kenny then lead me to our dinner spot. Located off of Ingersoll is a quint French Bistro called Montage. The restaurant, which is nestled on the corner, radiates charm. We had our first taste of Escargot, tossed in champagne and hazelnut-chartreuse butter. Delicious! For main dishes, Kenny ordered the Pan Seared Skate Wing, which is the delicate fin of a stingray. It was fabulous with a texture like scallops. I ordered the Steak Frites, pan fried strip steak, hand cut fries and sauteed spinach. It was magnificent. They also dished up fresh handmade ketchup for the frites. We toasted with wine and ended dinner with a hazelnut, almond and chocolate dessert called, Gâteau Marjolaine. Our evening was unforgettable.

The funniest part about celebrating this weekend was the similarities to last year. Just like this weekend, the day before the wedding it was nice the morning and afternoon but then thunderstorms came rolling in during the rehearsal dinner. The day of the wedding, after a night of rainfall, the temperature dropped 20 degrees and the weather continued. We are feeling that chill again today. I think back about how we didn't get to have our wedding outside as planned, but I distinctly remember saying my vows as a blue glow illuminated the lodge from the windows and it was moving. Our first dance was to Dave Matthews Band's Crash Into Me and just as we were in that very moment- we were throughout our first year - in wedding bliss and I want to stay there as long as possible.

Thank you to our family and friends for celebrating along with us!
We are so very lucky to have this kind of love.

"Sweet like candy to my soul
Sweet you rock
and sweet you roll
Lost for you, I'm so lost for you
as you come crash into me."
