Drake Relays - Kind of a Big Deal
Not being a native Iowegian, I had to find out that participating in the Drake Relays was a pretty big deal. People from all over the country, mostly college students, come to the Drake Campus to participate in the 5 day event. Along with traditional track events such as discus, shot and (obviously) numerous relays, a marathon, half-marathon, 8k, decathlon, heptathlon and even the Grand Blue Mile are a part of the party that takes over Des Moines. I was not only impressed to see the overall participation but that my friends and husband took part as well!
Go here to see the last race this team ran.
Kenny and I woke up at the BC of dawn, picked up our friend Katie (Failed to take a pic of the cheering squad, sorry Katie) and headed to the Drake campus.

This tired momma is all about being her husbands biggest fan. Biggest for sure!
And they are off! The dude in the blue finished the 8K in 23 minutes! Wowza!
Eric taking it to the streets!
Tamara busting a move.
KP showing this race who is boss.
Alicia taking it all in stride.
Congratulations to you all on your 8K success!
As always, it is so fun to watch you and cheer you on at the finish line.
Your determination is motivating and inspirational.

Even Hutch could feel the post race love!
Me, Al and Eric's hand.
After the race, we celebrated by having a delicious brunch in Beaverdale at AK O'Connors. Kenny had a couple post race bloody marys and Katie indulged in a couple Irish coffees. I chugged some water as I did have to walk a couple miles to be a good spectator. :)
I can't wait until Ethan can see his dad and our friends run. Only 23 days! YAY!
