In the Eye of the Beholder
I have always been in love with makeup, hair, and clothes. In my younger years, I was fascinated with watching my mother in the mornings, but never had the desire to get all prettied up. During special occasions, my mom and sister usually stepped in to make me over. But choosing clothing was all me. I was never consistent. Whether it was a grunge, preppy, or train wrecked, my mom let me do as I pleased, allowing me to try to find myself in the process. It was so fun.
Times have changed, but my style hasn't much. In my adult years, I utilized my mother makeup techniques. The 20 minutes I have in front of the mirror is the time I look forward to everyday. I enjoy trying new things; some don't work out, some do. My make up is never perfect. My only goal is to attempt to make it appear I gave it the good ol' college try to look put together. And if I don't, well, who cares right?
Clothing is still all over the board. And I still have a blast with it.
This is how I would describe my style right now:
Bold and trendy.
Daring, yet restrained.
Clean, flirty and fun.
Simple and modern.
I am not classic. I am not sporty. I am not modest. I loathe windpants. The word fashionista makes me frown. I don't buy all my clothes at one store only and I don't care about name brands. I know hats and halter tops just never work out for me. Ponytails are iffy on me.
I like a good pair of jeans, adore a flirty dress, and live for color. I pick lace and ruffles. The bigger the sunglasses the better. I am not opposed to buying second hand or vintage. My make up changes daily. I have had perms, mullets, and my hair has been almost every color you can imagine.
Remember, this is me now. Not past and not present. Who knows how I may change?!
Anyway...
Just recently, I found this amazing little website called The Beauty Department, Your Daily Dose of Pretty. If you are a Pinterest user and a "fashion/beauty" fan, this may be the site for you to pin away! Nails, hair, and makeup - oh my! So many new looks and techniques with photo tutorials to guide you every step of the way.
When I have spare time (bwahaha) I pick a look and give it a shot. I truly believe, feeling pretty and looking pretty are two different things. I feel the prettiest when I play in my arsenal and dare to try something new. After all, I know that under it all, I am still the same old Tabbie who will look back one day and laugh at the outfits I chose to wear just as I do now.
Good luck style warriors! In my eyes there is no wrong way as long as you are happy! Let me know how you have evolved!
