It's a Bird, It's a Plane. No, it's the Golden Circle Games.

On Wednesday, to prepare myself for my procedure, Kenny and I played the Des Moines Golden Circle Games for the fourth year. It would have been five, but last year I was busy with a newborn little boy. (However, we still stopped by to say hello and bid good luck to our team with Hutch in tow!)

Visiting at the 2011 Golden Circle Games

This year, I was in. I needed some fun and so did Kenny before what we knew would not be the funnest couple of days ahead.

Our team had changed a little over the years. Three of the members left our company, and one thought getting married was way more important (totally kidding AV, we missed you!) but we picked up two new players. Steph and Andy joined team HM (IT, Accounting, Corporate Marketing, CRS.)

Team Awesome

We hired Sao and her mom to babysit, knowing they wouldn't have to stay too late because Grandma and Grandpa were on their way in to town and headed off to start the afternoon.

What are the GCG's?
Here is the breakdown:

1) Eat a late lunch - Our team chose Zombie Burger so it would sit heavy and soak up the copious amounts of beverages our team likes to drink.

2) Tailgate - nothing like hanging out with people dressed in super hero attire playing washers, ladder golf and bags.

3) Head into the Fairgrounds to play games - not just any games, these are the most ridiculous games you could think of. Throwing a chicken into a bucket with a plunger. Running with a foam noodle in between your legs with your team. Wheelbarrow races. Plank walking. And my favorite, to go with the superhero theme, was the "Presto Chango" where you had to run into a phone booth and change from a average Joe into a super hero and run out to exchange clothes with the next person on your team. Hilarious.

They are all team building races and you get a little exercise while doing them. I have made some close friends at my job because of these silly games they allow us to play each year. If you are in the metro, talk to your business about joining next year. It is sad to see participation down because of the economy and would love to see the midway packed next year! Pass it on.

My parents arrived early that night so we had to abandon our team, but it sounds like they still kicked a little tail without our help. Nice work on the tug-o-war yellow team! Bragging rights for a year!

So. Much. Fun.
